It’s hard to put Tchiya’s music are her into a category, but if you enjoy listening to great music with an incredible Island feeling, then you will surely enjoy The Best, Tchiya Amet’s new CD release by HousTone Records. This record is a collection of music spanning Tchiya’s 20 year career, and the title says it all: it is definitely “The Best”. The CD has a Jazzy, Latin, World Native vibe, and is definitely something special, from the Timeless Classics Collection VOL. “Her music is rooted in Roots Reggae, Afro Brazilian, Afro Cuban and Native American Traditional music, a blend of Indigenous and Contemporary world rhythms I call “Reggae Fusion Jazz”- says Sirron Kyles, General Manager at HousTone Records.

Tchiya is a student of several languages, “I can order dinner and get around town in many places!”-she jokes. Many different languages are featured in songs on this CD. “Often referred to as the Island’s Robert Flack because of her soft vocal style, but similarities to Sade and Esperanza Spalding, Sun Ra because of Tchiya’s fondness for unique instrumental arrangements, a mild Erykah Badu and of course Bob Marley because of her oneness messages which are always featured in her song lyrics”- says Marc Gordon Entertainment Editor, Waiting Room, USA Magazine.

Musician, Singer, Song Writer, poet and philosopher, Tchiya Amet born August 5th, grew up on the South Side of Chicago, IL. Her ancestral heritage resembles a patchwork quilt and she is proud of being of African & Native American descent, which includes Cherokee and Blackfoot, maybe one of the reasons why she chose to become Tchiya Amet El Maat, Natural Wellness Therapist, Specializing in Kemetic Healing and Egyptian Yoga, her Caregiver Persona. Músico, Cantante, Escritora de canciones, poetisa y filósofa, Tchiya Amet nació el 5 de agosto, y creció en el lado sur de Chicago, en Illinois. Su herencia ancestral se asemeja a un caleidoscopio y ella se siente orgullosa de ser de ascendencia africana y nativa americana, que incluye Cherokee y Blackfoot, quizás una de las razones por las cuales eligió convertirse en Tchiya Amet El Maat, terapeuta natural del bienestar, especializándose en la curación Kemética y Yoga egipcia.

A long time sideman, Tchiya has played  with many bands, including Joanna Marie, Isaac Haile Selassie, Karison, World Tribe, the Presidents, One Nation, starting with Irie Jane. Late 90’s, her first band: Dogon Sirius; Y2K: Tchiya Amet & the Light House Band toured with the Spirit of Bob Marley Festival Tour. 2001 they traveled to both coasts: Spring 2001 to St. Petersburg, FL for the Seminole Tribe “Discover Native America Pow Wow”. Summer found them out West at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, Roots Mountain Fest in Tonasket, WA and Reggae on the River. Other festivals & cultural events include:, the Austin I.S.D. Pow Wow, Houston Women’s Festival, Austin Jazz Festival, World One Day in El Cerrito, CA.Alamo Community Garden Festival, and Healing Bloody Island Concert at Robinson Rancheria (Pomo Indian Rez).

Fall of 2002 Tchiya Amet & the Light House Band had the opportunity to perform at Monterey Bay Reggae Fest, One Root Festival, and San Francisco Reggae in the Park.

Since then Reggae on the River, California Indian Days and Earth Day at Hidden Oaks, at the Round Valley Indian Reservation, Native American Contemporary Arts Festival, End the Silence End the Violence: Tchiya Amet Day 2014, Austin, Tx, Chicago hard Rock Cafe, and so many more.

Recently, in 2017, Tchiya has performed with the Kasha Rootz Band in Jamaica,

Tchiya began homeschooling her daughters as soon as they were born. Wanting to create a better world for the girls, Tchiya got involved with music, festival production, organic food co-op management, and host of other activities.
